Office Sian is an architecture studio committed to social justice through design. We work closely with communities to create spaces that are equitable, inclusive, and rooted in place.
It is our belief that architecture is not just about buildings, but also about voices - who is heard, who is represented, and how the built environment can serve everyone.
Our practice explores the richness of architecture through built projects, through writing, and through sound.
Office Sian’s completed commissions have been award-winners, and have also been shortlisted for international, national and local architecture and arts awards. Office Sian have been shortlisted for the Grenfell Tower Memorial. The Phoenix Garden Building won the RIBA Regional Award, the Camden Design Award, and was shortlisted for the RIBA Regional Award and national RIBA Journal MacEwan Award.
Office Sian Architecture + Design has been included in the Architecture Foundations ‘New Architects 4’, a major publication showcasing the best studios practicing in the UK in the last 10 years.
Gurmeet has been a recipient of the RIBA London Architect of the Year Award. As well as being an Architect, he is a frequent speaker at RIBA events, leads workshops for young people interested in architecture, and is a keen advocate for equity and diversity in the build environment.
There are many challenges for those from differing and diverse backgrounds to access and be part of conversations in and around the subject of architecture. We are forever trying to learn from other people’s journeys, and know that by being open and accountable about privilege, or the lack of it, can change society for the better. We try to design for all, and are proud to create a studio environment for all, including those from non-traditional backgrounds.
We are actively cognisant that, for some people, reflecting and recollecting can be a painful and traumatic experience; where needed, we work alongside experts to inform a trauma-informed approach to design, to help clients and community members to express themselves in a safe and contained environment.
